WHAT IS HYROX?

HYROX is a global indoor fitness competition that blends endurance running with functional strength exercises, creating a standardized race format accessible to athletes of all levels. Often dubbed the "World Series of Fitness Racing," HYROX challenges participants with a consistent structure worldwide, allowing for global rankings and comparisons.

Race Format

Each HYROX race comprises eight rounds, each consisting of a 1 km run followed by a functional workout station. The sequence is as follows:

  1. 1 km Run + SkiErg (1,000 meters)

  2. 1 km Run + Sled Push (50 meters)

  3. 1 km Run + Sled Pull (50 meters)

  4. 1 km Run + Burpee Broad Jumps (80 meters)

  5. 1 km Run + Rowing (1,000 meters)

  6. 1 km Run + Farmer’s Carry (200 meters)

  7. 1 km Run + Sandbag Lunges (100 meters)

  8. 1 km Run + Wall Balls (75 reps for women, 100 for men)

This format totals 8 km of running interspersed with eight functional exercises, testing both cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength.

Global Reach and Popularity

Founded in Hamburg, Germany, in 2017 by Christian Toetzke and Olympic field hockey champion Moritz Fürste, HYROX has rapidly expanded its global presence. By 2024, the competition hosted over 65 races across more than 30 countries, attracting approximately 175,000 participants. The standardized format ensures that athletes worldwide compete under identical conditions, fostering a sense of global community and competition.

Divisions and Accessibility

HYROX is designed to be inclusive, offering various divisions to cater to different fitness levels and preferences:

  • Open Division: For general participants seeking a challenging yet achievable race.

  • Pro Division: For seasoned athletes aiming for competitive times.

  • Doubles: Teams of two share the workload, ideal for partners or friends.

  • Relay: Teams of four, each member completes two segments of the race.

This structure allows individuals to participate according to their fitness levels and goals.
